Almost Tuned Cars: The 65 Fairlane

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

When it comes to the 65 Fairlane it seemed that things took a very dramatic turn for the American car manufacturer. This new model when compared to previous models would be very much superior. It had very nice interior design and when we’re talking about HP, it was enough to leave any fan in search for high speeds pleased. Thus if you were looking to have your adrenaline levels rushed to the max, the 1965 Ford Fairlane would definitely had the job done.

Tuned Car

Talking about technical details, 14 inch wheels were a new thing to be introduced with this year’s model and the wheelbase was set up to 116 inches. When it comes to talking about the engine, the 170 CID 6 and 260 CID V8s were totally removed for they weren’t of any use any longer. Thus rated at 120 HP was the new 200 CID engine which would be the standard to be found on all the models Ford released this year. If we are to talk about Modified Cars, then this can be considered one of them.

When it comes to talking about the top engine Ford had in store for its pricier models, this was the 271 HP 289 V8 engine. Thus there was also another engine to come into the charts and this one was the 2 barrel versions of the aforementioned and it was topped to 200 HP. Now that was really some great achievement the guys from Ford managed to pull out.

Thus the 1963 Ford Fairlane proved that it can easily compare itself to top producers like Plymouth and Chevrolet and have some good cars running up the production line and messing about on the streets. If you had one of these babies, then you really knew something about cars, which anyone one else didn’t.

These days, anyone that has such a car would consider Car Tuning for sure, because with the advances in technology, there are pretty mean things out there that you can use in order to make this baby look even meaner than it already looks.

V-Twin: A Widely Used Engine

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

V-twin is an internal combustion engine consisting of two cylinders that are placed in V configuration. There is a design called classic shared crank pin which is very common among engine producers. However, there are some exceptions to it like Moto Guzzi having 500cc and V angle of 120° and crank pin offset of 180°; Honda Shadow 750 that came in 1983 was the first bike that had V-twin engine and dual pin offset crankshaft; and Suzuki VX 800 that came in 1987 and having V angle of 45° and 45° offset crank pin in USA.

Any motorcycle engine that has two cylinders that are arranged at an angle of higher than 0° and smaller than 180° is known as V-twin engine. No specific angle is used to designate them. V angles of the narrow range from 42 degrees to 50 degrees are often used to determine the configuration of classic V-twin. If the angle is narrower from this range it would create several unwanted vibrations. If the angle is wider then the chassis required would be extremely long.

Signature Ducati is a type of 90° twin engine. The rear cylinder of it is approximately vertical and the front cylinder is approximately horizontal. This engine is commonly known as L twin. No distinction can be made between L-twin and V-twin engines on technical basis. These names are just used on the basis of convention.

Yamaha XV1600, XV1700, MT-01 have a V angle of 48°. Kawasaki V-Force, Prairie 650 has a V angle of 90°.
